More than 50 recruiters and managers attended our educational panel discussion, Grow your impact as a strategic business partner with data-driven hiring processes. Participating panelists joining SkillSurvey CEO Ray Bixler were Heather Grier, Director of Talent Management, McLeod Health, William Poynter, VP of Talent Acquisition, HealthSouth Corporation and Theresa Mazzaro, RN, BA, CHCR, RACR, Recruitment Manager, Adventist HealthCare. During this session, panelists shared some of the innovative approaches they’ve implemented to support their talent acquisition functions while building strong, effective relationships with their business partners. Panelists outlined their stories of success, highlighting the best practices they’ve come to depend upon within their organizations. They also discussed the following topics and their impact on hiring in healthcare:
- The talent deficit and how that is impacting hiring at all levels
- The impact of shrinking tenure on talent acquisition teams
- Hiring and retaining staff across all generational boundaries
- Obtaining insight on candidate soft skills and how they impact HCAHPS
- Leveraging online reference checks and other assessments to select talent
- The early stage uses of artificial intelligence and machine learning in hiring
We are thankful that these gifted healthcare talent leaders were willing to share the work they’ve done to enable informed, objective hiring decisions and very specific examples of tried-and-true best practices. Their candor and openness during this session provided a great atmosphere for sharing and gave our attendees good food for thought and innovative solutions they could take home to their own facilities.
Traffic and conversations in the exhibit hall were also fantastic. Many of attendees stopped by to discuss the challenges they are facing when trying to source and hire top talent for their facilities. CEO Ray Bixler, who was recently named Institutional Member at Large to the 2017-2018 NAHCR Board of Directors, had the honor of cutting the ribbon to kick-off the first reception! The 2017 NAHCR IMAGE Conference provides a fantastic opportunity for healthcare recruiters to learn and share. We were thrilled to be part of the educational process with our panel discussion and our breakfast presentation on Thursday. We like to think we were also a part of the conference fun as well, celebrating the successes of the NAHCR membership during the return of the gala event, and even hosting our own golf-themed kick-off reception on Tuesday!
