Fred Oswald is an Associate Professor in industrial/organizational psychology at Rice University. His research and consulting expertise focuses on personnel selection systems, focusing on measuring and modeling performance outcomes in organizational, military and educational samples, and in predicting performance outcomes with measures of personality, motivation, knowledge, experience and ability. Dr. Oswald currently maintains two grant-funded projects. The first is with the US Navy under the auspices of Navy Personnel Research, Studies, & Technology (NPRST). This project examines the nature of multitasking performance in dynamic, complex, and stressful work settings, improving Navy classification by incorporating measures relevant to multitasking into a sailor’s assessment battery. The second project is with The College Board, where his research team has developed a biographical data (biodata) measure and a situational judgment inventory. Both measures have been developed and validated across multiple institutions and against multidimensional outcomes, in both cross-sectional and longitudinal studies. These studies have provided evidence for incremental validity above and beyond more traditional measures. Both projects have critical implications for measuring and predicting effective organizational performance. Dr. Oswald publishes and serves on the editorial boards for several major organization research journals including Journal of Applied Psychology, International Journal of Selection and Assessment, Journal of Management, and Organizational Research Methods.
