Company: Fortune 100 manufacturing firm Challenge: Reduce the time and money spent on identifying applicants for first round on-site interviews while raising the Quality of Hire SkillSurvey Application Point: The client uses SkillSurvey as a screening solution after a successful initial phone screen and prior to scheduling on-site interviews. Summary: This Fortune 100 manufacturing firm was looking for a way to accurately manage the applicant pool and improve the quality of hires. Before adopting SkillSurvey, this company conducted on-site interviews with all applicants that passed an initial phone screen. The result was that HR managers and business line hiring managers spent a lot of time in interviews with applicants that were not going to be hired. Finalist applicants would then be reference checked via telephone. The results were typical for phone referencing; many calls not returned, an inconsistent approach, and generic "name, rank and serial number" information from those references that called back. Given the amount of time recruiters put into making calls, the resulting information value was quite low. Today, the company applies SkillSurvey as a standard step in the hiring process. Job applicants that pass the phone screen are SkillSurveyd prior to on-site interviews. This reduces the amount of time and money spent on 1st round interviews, and speeds the hiring process, because those applicants that are not serious about the job will de-select themselves and the most qualified applicants will rise to the top and are prioritized for interviews. Because an SkillSurvey report is available prior to the interview, HR and hiring managers benefit from having the input of the applicant's references to guide the interview discussion. The report serves as an interview productivity enhancer and as a guide for less experienced interviewers. SkillSurvey Results: 25% of applicants de-select themselves by not completing SkillSurvey (one-fourth fewer interviews at a minimum) Of the applicants completing SkillSurvey: 4% scored Low -> Do not interview 27% scored Medium -> Consider interviewing 60% scored High -> Interview 9% scored Very High -> Interview first. Broader perspective: 5.7 completed references per applicant Efficient and effective: 1.5 days to complete reference checking with no phone calls required by the client company

"We have found that we get deeper and more useful information than we did before so we don't end up having to fill the same job three months later because we hired the wrong person."
