Just over a year ago, Scott Lindblom was faced with a mandate from the Medical Director of his facility: all pre-employment screening and pre-employment credentialing must be completed before an employment agreement is sent to any candidate. This meant that a 20-step pre-employment credentialing process would need to be done quickly and efficiently to ensure employment agreements could be sent in a timely manner.
The main goal for Lindblom and his team was to conduct as thorough of a screening process as possible on every candidate to ensure they are quality providers who meet or exceed medical staff credentialing standards. The team’s hope was to ensure there would be no surprises once a candidate signed an employment agreement and started the medical staff credentialing process.
The team’s biggest hurdle in the pre-employment credentialing process was reaching references. Reference requests were sent using email or fax, follow-up was conducted manually, and they experienced a median response time of 10 days, sometimes up to 21 days. The slow process caused hiring delays and lost revenue, not to mention major frustration among recruiters, candidates, references, and the other departments involved.
Lindblom recognized that process improvement was necessary so he got to work evaluating technology solutions that might help eliminate their referencing woes and improve efficiency.
