As retailers ramp up seasonal hiring and look toward the holiday season as the proving ground for their business performance, they should consider that many customer service/sales candidates may not have the skills or training to engage with customers and recommend new products.
New research from SkillSurvey shows that a significant number of customer service and sales job candidates could improve their ability to engage with customers and recommend other products or solutions.
Why are these skills important? A study by a major home improvement retailer found that high employee engagement drove four percent higher average ticket per store, and the difference between the highest and lowest engaged stores was more than $1 million in sales per year.
